Did you do anything significant today?

Did you do anything significant today?

Today, I went to school, had a job interview and then came home to finish the never ending pile of laundry. Nothing earth shattering, nothing world changing. I didn’t volunteer for anything, I didn’t go out of my way to help someone less fortunate than me, and I didn’t save a life. I would venture to say most of you can relate. We all go through the motions of our daily lives, which are seemingly mundane. We all wish we could do SOMETHING more, SOMETHING meaningful, SOMETHING significant.

Did you smile today? If you answered yes, then you did do something significant. Why shouldn’t you or I feeling happy about something, indicate significance? Sure, you didn’t sign up for the twenty dollar monthly donation so that a child in Africa can eat or go to school, but for a brief moment, you were happy with something in your life. A smile costs nothing but can give so much.  It enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give it.  It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. No one is so rich or mighty that he cannot get along without it and no one is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it.  Yet a smile cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away.

Did you laugh? Laughter is life’s best medicine. Without it, we are dull and lifeless. If you did indeed laugh, which I’m sure at some point in the day you did, then you my friend, have done something significant. When something is funny be sure to laugh. A laugh lifestyle is predicated upon our attitude toward the daily stuff of life.  When those tasks seem too dull to endure, figure out a way to make them fun; get creative and entertain yourself.  If the stuff of life for you right now is not dull and boring but instead painful and overwhelming, find something in the midst of the pain that makes you giggle anyway.

Did you tell someone you loved them? Seems like a pretty normal thing to say on a daily basis. Your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, and/or kids usually here it from you on a regular basis. It is EXTREMELY significant. The love of family and friends is beyond important and telling them so is crucial. Love cannot be modified without being nullified. Love means the body, the soul, the life, the entire being.  We feel love as we feel the warmth of our blood, we breathe love as we breathe the air, we hold it in ourselves as we hold our thoughts. Nothing more exists for us.  Love is not a word; it is a wordless state indicated by four letters.

Did you do anything significant today?
